About The Founder

David Robison is the founder of Design Empath, where he blends his passion for design and engineering into creating products that evoke individuality and emotion. With a background as a master fabricator and clay modeler, David transitioned into CAD, merging old-world craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Under his leadership, Design Empath has grown into a trusted partner for clients across various industries, from automotive design to wind turbines and movie cars.

The intersection of design and consciousness

David has always loved cars. In many ways, he was predestined to focus that passion into their design and enable their creation, both in his work at Design Empath and in the provocative, fall-in-love designs of Rossi Motors. In fact, his earliest conscious memory is of the family’s ‘59 Impala. As a child growing up in SoCal, “Mag” wheels and front engine dragsters were the things dreams were made of.

David likens a great car or product design to a charismatic individual. “An individual enters a room and immediately stirs emotion and is the center of attention. The impressions of the experience linger long after the encounter and have long lasting effects on what we see & want for ourselves. So when we institute a design, we seek to instill that dynamic into the morphic field of a product. When you put that level of energy into a design you are also putting in the essence of individuality. For the customer it then evokes an opportunity to express self with a dynamic individuality.”   In design and in life, balance is important, and it’s an idea around which David has built his life with wife and business partner Cynthia. “We set our lifestyle to accept the kind of work that we like to do how we like to do it. When executing a design, we draw from the Canon of Number & Proportion, the first archetype or paradigm of nature. Through this essence of numerical character, we harmonize and imbue each design with beneficial energy – that which draws the eye because it just feels right”.   Originally a master clay modeler & fabricator of 15 years on everything from cars and motorcycles to tractors, David considers himself a generator in the Art to Part process. Taking a concept and generating the ideas that make it a reality. “Design is my favorite word – creating it is my passion.” Always seeing beyond the immediate, twenty years ago David recognized that Computer Aided Design (CAD) was a way of expressing artistic form: “I said this is my future, now I can hold the tolerances that satisfy my left brain engineer while fulfilling my right brain, artistic visual.”   This moment of satori led to the creation of Blue Fusion, a Tier One supplier to Ford Motor Company acting as the Surface Integrator to Corporate Design and Engineering and the recipient of the Ford Q1 quality endorsement. The underlying theme of the company is the factory of the mind where fusion comes together. A marriage ensues of old world methodologies with new world technologies. This philosophy is symbolized in the Kanji water mark on the business card – strength through cooperation. Almost 20 years later, this family business remains committed to that philosophy of working with designers and engineers to create a superior product while the company has grown to support clients on two virtual coasts and Europe. “We’ve designed planes, wind turbines, brakes, wheels, interiors and have now added movie cars to our repertoire of fun stuff. When you love what you do – it gets recognized.”
